Archive for April, 2010
There are times that re-charge your battery and teach that others can be such a blessing and a treat in your life; last night, 4/28/10, was one of those.
We had a man come to our front door, a week ago, requesting a reservation for high 5 course dinner tea, for four.
He said he had been to the queen anne before and thought it was the perfect place to ask his dear friends to stand up with him and his future bride.
Obviously we were very glad for the reservation as March, April business has been extremely slow, however, to have someone elect the Queen Anne as the place where they could invite dear friends to be a part of their future wedding was an honor.
These couples, Linda and I, could relate well with each other, due to our ages and our faith.
When the tea lady (linda) reached in the bag of potatoes she found a heart shaped one, which was given to the future bride. We laughed that we had never seen a heart shaped potato so this was a treat for all of us.
Upon completing dinner we were asked to tell the story of this 1889 victorian structure; which is full of history, as well as those who walked a life of faith. We sat down and told them the history leading us to share our journey, which began in 2001.
We were amazed at their stories of faith, their involvement in prison ministries and how offenders behind the wall often teach us more that outside the walls.
All of us spoke of how important it has been in our lives to be a part of our nation accepting diversity; and the lessons we have learned from others, sometimes those who we don’t agree with, the group spoke of their confidence that God is in control and he is working his plan.
The day was a blessing, in so many ways, ie being selected to facilitate others loving each other enough to be a part of their lives; the opportunity to share our faith journey and the blessings in serving others.
Thank you Roland, it was an honor.

The tea house is receiving accent, window lights, gold on the first floor, multi-colored on the 2nd and 3rd floors, to add ambiance for dining and to identify the beauty in the 30+ windows of this 1889 Victorian structure. Hopefully 1st and 2nd floors will be done for Blossom Festival weekend.

Beginning Sunday, April 18th, the CaƱon City Queen Anne Tea House will provide a monthly Fellowship Brunch to help fund charities.
“We have always tried to find worthwhile activities where the Queen Anne can support charities and non-profit activities,” said Al Ballard, co-owner of the tea house which has been in business for two years. It has been our honor to hold fund raisers for our local history museum, as well as other needs. We have an upcoming fund raiser for the YMCA feasibility study effort in Fremont County (http://www.thecanoncityqueenanne.com/516ymcafundraiser.html) however, we wanted to find something that we could do each month when the weather permits, so guests can enjoy the tea rooms or the veranda, while supporting charities. The concept of a monthly brunch, where a portion of the funds received can be forwarded to a charity fits that goal well.
The brunch will feature on site, made to order Omelets, Belgium waffles and a host of brunch items to include a chocolate fountain for dessert. The complete menu can be seen at http://www.thecanoncityqueenanne.com/418brunchfundraiser.html. Seating is open between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., however, reservations are required due to limited seating.
Phone or Text reservations can be made at (719)275-5354 or email: linda@thecanoncityqueenanne.com
Costs for the brunch are $29.99 per adult, with $4.99 of that cost being donated to charity of the month by the Queen Anne. Children, 10 years and under are $13.99 each, with $3.99 of that cost being donated to the charity of the month by the Queen Anne. Additional donations will be collected for the charity of the month and total donations will be reported on the Queen Anne website, www.thecanoncityqueenanne.com.
We are going to offer a unique service with these brunches in that those who wish to anonymously gift someone a brunch, we will handle all of the details, said Al. There are some people going through difficult times right now and we know that a gift in being able to come to a fine dining experience could be a real lift in their lives, so we want to help others provide that blessing.
Future Fellowship Brunches and Charity Fund Raisers will be held on Sundays, May, 30th, June 6th, July 11th, August 8th, September 19th, October 10th and November 7th. Charities of the month will be listed on the Queen Anne website.
